About James Oliver Corktown

James Oliver Coffee's flagship café with bagels, sandwiches, pastries, salads, soups - all made in house.

James Oliver Corktown is a cafe in Detroit, Michigan. It is listed at 1236 Michigan Ave, Detroit, MI 48226, which places it among the local businesses of Detroit that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by.

In Detroit, coffee shops cluster around downtown offices, college campuses and the main commercial streets of residential neighborhoods, and the independents usually close by mid-afternoon while chains stay open into the evening. Across Michigan, drive-thru coffee stands and kiosks fill the gap in suburbs and along highways, and roasters often sell bags and brewing gear at the counter. Check the listing for hours, whether the cafe takes mobile orders, and its Google rating and recent reviews; parking is easiest at suburban locations, while downtown shops rely on street meters or nearby garages. Loyalty programs are common and worth joining if you are a regular.

Hours are published for 7 days a week. The most common schedule is 7 am–3 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (313) 765-9505. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, jamesolivercoffee.com.

On Google it holds a rating of 4.4 out of 5 from 436 reviews, which is a strong result for a cafe in Detroit and suggests consistent service.

Went for the vegan options and was not disappointed! I got the vegan bacon, egg and cheese on a rosemary salt bagel and it was sooo good! The carrot bacon was crunchy and delicious, the vegan eggs were great and as someone who doesn’t love vegan cheese normally it was really good on the sandwich. I also got the vegan blueberry muffin which was also really good - one of the best blueberry muffins I’ve ever had, vegan or non vegan. Oat milk latte to finish it off. The staff were friendly and I will be back.

James Oliver Coffee Co. in Corktown is one of my favorite places to work remotely. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance—comfortable, welcoming, and professional without being overly quiet or distracting. The coffee is consistently excellent, and they offer a great selection of sandwiches and food if you’re planning to stay for a few hours. Unlike some coffee shops that can get overwhelmingly loud, James Oliver maintains a noise level that makes it easy to focus while still feeling lively. What really sets it apart is that you can comfortably take meetings here without worrying about excessive background noise, and it’s equally great for getting work done between calls. If you’re looking for a coffee shop in Detroit with great coffee, good food, and a productive work environment, James Oliver is definitely worth a visit.

Super cute space with tables for convo and work. Nitro (a little pricey for the size) was solid and miso butter jam cookie was amazing! Would recommend.

Came here for a breakfast bagel and coffee. The bagel was decent, I liked the bacon, but the way the egg is done (more like an omelette) wasn’t really for me. The coffee was a bit average, especially after having such an amazing one the day before, at Lucky Detroit, so that was a little disappointing. For what they said was a three shot coffee was just too weak. The space itself has a good atmosphere and plenty of seating, but parking nearby isn’t the easiest. The staff came across a bit dismissive at times, like questions were a bit of an effort, which took away from the experience. Overall it was okay, but probably not somewhere I’d go back to.

The coffee, and the breakfast sandwich was fantastic!! So good.. You definitely need to order ahead otherwise you will be waiting a long time to order and to get what you ordered. Super busy which means it takes awhile to get anything. Staff are great too!
